Phthalates in ordinary products
Back to story
Puget Sound: Down the drain? When you wash clothes, you pollute (Updated: more photos)
|
Seventh Generation detergent doesn't contain a toxic chemical called phthalates but this toy plastic dinosaur and liquid Tide laundry detergent displayed do, according to Washington Toxics Coalition. Phthalates also slough off vinyl flooring, shower curtains and lots of other household items and cling to the clothes we wear as we walk through the home. So at laundry time, the phthalates go down drains and some eventually reach Puget Sound. (Photo: Grant M. Haller)
