Fishers work
Back to story
Puget Sound: Down the drain? When you wash clothes, you pollute (Updated: more photos)
|
Fishers work the water off Golden Gardens as the tide begins to fill Puget Sound. A state report suggests Puget Sound's urban bays are getting cleaned up and improving – although one-third of the total study area remains “chemically contaminated,” meaning the pollution levels are so high they don’t meet the state’s Sediment Quality Standards. A common culprit is the same toxic chemical (a phthalate nicknamed DEHP) fingered in the dirty-laundry
study. (Archive photo: Grant M. Haller)
