Lines, lack of focus
Two things I don't like about SIFF. First, I don't like the poorly managed lines. Second, I don't understand the point. What do these movies have to do with Seattle?

the point of SIFF for anyone who doesn't care about film (i.e. what makes a good film? good lighting, good directing, good screen play, good acting; sharing culture from another country; supporting the arts) is that it brings revenue to the city. In this economy, the restaurants are packed, finally, which means all the tables are being taxed over & over.
the poorly managed lines are a result of a nonprofit finding a way to create a high demand for the products they peddle. people travel here from all over. it's one of the largest film festivals in the nation.
i hate baseball, but i'll deal with the mess it makes downtown because it brings people to the city to spend money.

Let's try this with another famous film festival.
Q. What does the Sundance Film Festival have to do with Sundance, Utah?
A. Location, that's all. It is a venue to which people want to come to see (good) films by independent producers. In this case, the Sundance Film Festival has grown to include locations in Park City and Salt Lake City.
Let's apply to the SIFF.
Q. What does the Seattle Film Festival have to do with Seattle, Washington?
A. Location, that's all. From its website, "SIFF's mission is to create experiences that bring people together to discover extraordinary films from around the world." In doing so, SIFF brings audiences from around the world to Seattle.

This is a very interesting find indeed. I will have to check it out when I get the time though. Thanks for the nice tips.

Great write up of this special read. It is on my vacation reading list and I’ll probably situation the ordination on Virago when I return from Lake Tahoe this weekend.
