Photos: View from Kerry Park
Former P-I photographer Grant Haller went to Kerry Park in Queen Anne on Friday expecting to find a sunset. The clouds got in the way, but there were other views to be found.

A photographer's day -- "Allentown"
Former P-I photographer Grant Haller finds a place to park. He pays for two hours. And he chronicles what he finds.
On Wednesday, this is what he saw:

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
From the PostGlobe!
Here's a look back at some of our favorite photos from the past eight months. Photographer Grant Haller, formerly of the P-I, roamed Seattle in September and captured the images of what he encountered. One morning, he was at Golden Gardens:

Himanee and I decided to take part in Black Friday Festivities for the first time this morning. We walked down Pine Street to Old Navy for the 3 am opening.
The walk through Capitol Hill into downtown in the wee hours of the morning is amazing loud and chaotic: we cross carefully, dodging taxi cabs and cars speeding down the arterials uninhibited by other traffic.
Old Navy was also buzzing; shoppers with armfuls and bags full of clothes. Christmas gifts – or perhaps like us taking advantage of a day we can get a few outfits for less than a paycheck.
We walked down Second Avenue to Pioneer Square at 3:45 and the world changed. I’m used to being in the neighborhood in the late morning through the afternoon and being inundated with noise, motion and smell. At this hour it is quiet - not quite asleep but resting. My senses become acute; I can feel people a block away.
Yet at the same time they disappear into the streets, the buildings...
“You can’t be here – no loitering.” Apparently, the back entrance of Smith Tower was the wrong place for me to be. A security guard at “Seattle’s best old building” told me that my body and my camera were blocking the passage-way. It was six feet wide; I took up perhaps 18 inches. But it didn’t matter. According to the guard, the Smith Tower was private property and I was not allowed. I shot this photo as I left. The building in the background used to be The Campbell Fuller Building dating...
I am making a 30-day journey as a documentary photographer and a diarist into Pioneer Square. My role is that of an outsider. My journey begins in the area of 3rd Avenue and Prefontaine Place, and will present Pioneer Square as a series of portraits -- portraits of the land, the buildings, the people. See previous photo essay.
“Homeless man walking away – Homeless man turning a corner.” I wanted to do more than smile at the man in front of me like tell him I wasn’t here to photograph homeless people. The fact is, however, every photograph of Pioneer Square is a photograph of a homeless person.
I think I feel like a lot of people feel right now: One or two paychecks away from being homeless. That’s an irrational fear though as we have plenty of family and friends whom we have supported who have and would support us again if we needed. But what if? What if our parents weren’t alive and stable? What if we didn’t have sisters? Or friends? I’m thinking of...
Pioneer Square is a neighborhood of insiders – those who work and live in the area – and outsiders – those who are transient or tourist.

rd Avenue and Prefontaine Place, and will present Pioneer Square as a series of portraits -- portraits of the land, the buildings, the people.
Prefontaine Place presents itself to the outsider – me, a resident of Seattle’s Central Area – as a resting place. It has a small park and a wading pool that has not been filled in many years. It also offers itself as a place to live, with artist’s lofts mingled with low-income housing.
At the same time, 3
rd Avenue and Prefontaine Place is a transit hub.
To the north are the King County courthouse and the county administration...
